Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the following requirements:
  • Be current sophomores or juniors (Some companies are only accepting rising seniors. Check listing)
  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Be majoring in chemistry or chemical engineering
  • Be able to complete a 10-week internship in the summer between their sophomore and junior years
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.5

How to Apply

The deadline for all materials is January 15, 2009. To apply:

  1. Complete the application form (requires one-page letter of interest). Indicate your top 3 internship choices.
  2. Submit an official transcript to:

  3. Select two people to submit recommendations using this recommendation form. At least one recommender must be a faculty member at the institution you attend.

Compensation:

* SCI Scholars receive $6,000-$9,000 for a ten-week internship.
 

* Students will be awarded a certificate and an additional $1000, which can be used for any purpose, such as participation at an ACS or AIChE meeting.
 

* Scholars nominate a high school chemistry teacher for recognition. Teachers will be awarded a certificate from SCI and $1,000, which can be used for professional development or classroom materials.
