The following students are eligible to apply to the UCSF Summer Research Training Program:

• US Citizens or Permanent Residents.

• Outstanding sophomores who have completed at least 3 semesters or 4 quarters of college work and have prior research experience.

• Juniors who have completed at least 5 semesters or 7 quarters of college work and have prior research experience.

• Non-graduating seniors, or seniors who do not plan to begin graduate study in the fall immediately following graduation.

• Previous participants in the SRTP may apply for a second summer experience.

A completed application must include:

• Application and personal statement (submitted online)

• Two letters of recommendation (sent by mail)

• Copy of college transcript(s) (sent by mail). Unofficial copies of transcripts are acceptable, and students must submit transcripts from all colleges/universities attended. While it is preferred that students submit transcripts that include grades from Fall 2006, they are not required. (Students may submit current transcript(s) with application materials, and send Fall 2006 grades separately when they become available.)

• Stipend and Subsistence: Participants receive a $3,500 stipend as well as a $1,300 subsistence allowance for food.
   
• Travel: For students who are not eligible for travel funds from their home institution, UCSF will provide travel funds to/from San Francisco. Students are also provided with passes the local public transportation system during their stay in San Francisco.
   
• Housing: Students live in dormitory-style housing near the UCSF Parnassus Campus. All program participants are expected to stay in the housing provided.
