| Because human rights studies
encompass a range of issues and methodologies from a variety
of academic fields, the Barnard Human Rights program
includes courses from many different departments. Students
pursuing the combined major must take both core and related
courses. For a more comprehensive explanation of the major
requirements, see the
major
requirements page.
A list of undergraduate courses that count as core courses and
related courses is provided as an MS Word document. In that document you will note that, as an
alternative to generally listed related courses, majors are invited
to pursue various tracks within the major.
Please also consult the Advisor's Record work-sheet. This enables
you to prepare for a conversation with your in-department
advisor, should you decide to become a Human Rights Major.
Students are advised to check the
Online Directory of Classes or the Barnard Online Catalogue for the most up-to-date
information regarding the availability of classes.
If there is a course that you feel should count towards the
major that you have taken or wish to take at Barnard, Columbia, or elsewhere
in the U.S., or abroad, but is not listed on this website,
please speak to your Human Rights advisor and submit a
Major Credit Approval Request form, available in 226D
Milbank Hall.
If you would like more than two transfer courses to count
for the Human Rights program, please fill out the
Additional Transfer Credit Request Form, and submit it
to 321 Milbank Hall. |
