| A minimum of six courses in Human Rights Studies, including Introduction to Human Rights W3001 and at least two other courses from among those designated as "core" courses, as well as majoring in a department, are required for a combined major in Human Rights Studies. Where courses in Human Rights Studies also satisfy departmental requirements, no more than three Human Rights Studies courses may count toward the major. Besides the six courses in Human Rights Studies, students will be asked to submit a senior thesis or project in the area of human rights studies, written in the
senior thesis seminar of the major department, or where that is
not possible, in conjunction with Human Rights Studies W3997x and W3998y Independent Study.
The topic of the thesis must be approved by the student's
Human Rights Advisor as addressing a human rights issue. The
advisor may also be later required to evaluate the thesis
for the award of distinction. Those interested in a combined major should consult with the Director or other faculty members of the Committee on Human Rights Studies.
