Liberty Partnerships Program
|
| The objective of the Liberty Partnerships Program is to provide youth
with the academic and social support they need to enhance their growth and development.
One way to foster their growth is through academic and enrichment classes, and exposure to
the greater community through internships at various job sites. The academic component of the program is designed to build and strengthen the English and mathematics skills of the students and to heighten their sense of cultural awareness. Each mourning, students take English and math classes. On alternating days, students also participate in either career workshops or tutoring, in addition to their academic classes. Students choose from a list of electives, such as art and dance for their afternoon class. By the end of the day, the students have had an academically challenging and rewarding experience. Every Thursday, the students volunteer at an internship site. Though their involvement in the internship the youths will begin to understand the work ethic. They will learn to arrive at work on time and be ready to work, to cooperate with employers and other staff members, to perform a task and complete it satisfactorily, and to be prepared to consistently put in hard work to get the job done. The internship will also provide them with the opportunity to work with people who will serve as positive role models. When the student participants understand the work ethic they will see that their work experience can be paralleled to their experience at school. For example, if they work hard at their work place they can be successful and so by studying hard, they will be successful in school. In order to live in a competitive society one must be equipped with with the proper tools for success. Consequently, through our internship program and academic classes we hope to prepare our students to meet the challenges they will face on a day-to-day basis and in the future. |
