Searching CLIO
CLIO (Columbia Libraries Information Online) is the on-line catalog for materials added to the Columbia University Libraries since 1981.  


Other Library Catalogs

Those with Columbia ID have access to the libraries of the Columbia Law School, the Jewish Theological Seminary, Teachers’ College, and Union Theological Seminary, but they are not included in CLIO. CUID also provides access to the libraries of New York University. Anyone who lives, works, or goes to school in New York is entitled to a New York Public Library card. Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs
The mission of this site is to provide relevant knowledge about the integration of public policy with programs such as international security, environment and natural resources, impact of science and technology, Russia and the Caspian, intrastate conflict, and other critical international affairs issues. There are links to publications, people, fellowships, events, press room, and an online library collection. Sponsored by the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS)
This organization's purpose is to furnish "strategic insights on--and policy solutions to--current and emerging global issues." The Center approaches global issues in a bipartisan, strategic, interdisciplinary manner to produce "results-oriented policy solutions." Find here a press release listing Experts on Campaign Against Terrorism, recent news, and links to publications and affiliated institutes. FIRST: Facts on International Relations and Security Trends
"High-quality, documented information covering the field of international relations and security, such as hard facts on states and international organizations, statistics, chronologies and data on, for example, conflicts, arms transfers and military expenditure." Enter FIRST leads to an extensive list of databases by country or multiple country profiles. Help with the site is available under Enter Forums. From the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) and the Center for Security Studies and Conflict (ISN).

International Affairs Resources
An annotated directory of nearly 3,000 links to "information and analysis in a wide range of international affairs, international studies, and international relations topics." Topics include business and economics, human rights, international development, and public health. Also features links to maps, media sources, and organizations. A Virtual Library site.

TraCCC: Transnational Crime & Corruption Center
This center is "devoted to teaching, research, training and formulating policy advice in transnational crime, corruption and terrorism." Much of the work "has focused on the analysis of transnational crime and corruption in the countries which constitute the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe." The site provides descriptions of research with links to documents and related information in areas such as trafficking in persons, money laundering, corruption, and transnational crime. U.S. Department of State: International Information Programs (IIP)
IIP is an office of the U.S. Department of State which "conducts, develops, and distributes public diplomacy materials in support of U.S. foreign policy objectives." This searchable site offers information on country, regional, and international issues (terrorism, arms control, sustainable development, etc.); a daily press service (Washington File); publications; and more. EndNote bibliographic software is available for downloading, free of charge, to all current Barnard and Columbia students from the AcIS software server at http://www.columbia.edu/acis/software/endnote.

EndNote allows you to

  • search for citations in library catalogs and databases using the EndNote software, or export results into EndNote from remote catalogs and databases
  • store the citations in libraries you create within EndNote
  • search through the citations you have stored using keyword searches
  • cite them in papers and bibliographies using any citation format you choose using the EndNote "Cite While You Write" feature

Consult the page EndNote at Barnard and Columbia for more details, the EndNote Manual (particularly Chapter 3) that is downloaded to your computer along with the program, and the online tipsheets that deal with specific topics.
