Books
CLIO: the Library Catalog

CLIO: (Columbia Libraries Information Online) is the on-line catalog for the Barnard and Columbia Libraries. Use CLIO to find books, journals, links to online books and journals,  and non-print materials, in the Columbia or Barnard libraries. CLIO can be searched by author, title, subject and keyword.  Help for searching CLIO is available on every CLIO screen: click on the Help button at the top. 

  • You can enter CLIO from the Barnard Library home page or from the Columbia University Libraries Home Page
  • Search tips are available on the bottom of the opening search screen
  • The holdings of the Health Sciences Library as well as Union Theological Seminary are included in CLIO
  • The Law Library's catalog is Pegasus,Teacher's College catalog is Educat and JTS' catalog is Aleph
  • To search CLIO, Pegasus and Educat simultaneously, click on the "Search all CU catalogs" button, available on every CLIO screen. To limit books to those in the Barnard library only use the Pre-Set Limit or Post Limit option; available with keyword and title searches only.

British Humanities Index

Central and Eastern European Online Library
an online archive which provides access to full text articles pertaining to Central, Eastern and South-Eastern European topics.

Essay and General Literature Index
Indexes essays and articles contained in collections of essays and miscellaneous works published in the United States, Great Britain, and Canada. Areas covered include the humanities and social sciences, with subject coverage ranging from economics, political science, and history to criticism of literary works, drama, and film 1985 to present. ProQuest
Multidisciplinary. Full text articles and abstracts from newspapers and periodicals in many disciplines, international affairs, law, psychology, public affairs, sociology, women's studies, from 1988 to the present. For scholarly journals, click on "scholarly journals" after results are retrieved.

Royal Historical Society Bibliography
The Royal Historical Society bibliography is a database containing citations to books and articles on British and Irish history, including relations with the empire and Commonwealth during all periods for which written documentation is available.
