- Use CLIO to find books, journals, links to online journals, and other materials, in the Columbia or Barnard libraries.
- Using subject headings in history research. See examples below.
great britain--history
great britain--history-- 19th century
great britain--social life and customs
women--china--historyNote the numerous sub-headings when searching the history of a particular country.
Many refer to specific historical time periods.
- Primary Sources can also be found in CLIO. Since Columbia is a major research library there are many monographs such as Roosevelt's travel writings or Napoleon's accounts of war campaigns. Also when doing a subject search look for these subdivisions in the subject field, archives, biography (this includes autobiographies), correspondence, diaries, interviews and sources.
For example:
women--middle east--history--sources
churchill winston sir 1874-1965 correspondence
