Placing materials on reserve - FAQs
Barnard and Columbia University Libraries provide Course Reserves to support instructional requirements for specific courses. Items placed on Course Reserves are in varying formats, and include books, journal articles, video-recordings, compact discs, and DVDs.
In order to assure availability, Course Reserves collections have short loan periods which vary by individual library location.
Course Reserves items can be accessed through the Course Reserves search on CLIO, or through CourseWorks.

LIBRARY RESEARCH INSTRUCTION
Barnard faculty are encouraged to schedule library research instruction sessions for their classes. These multimedia presentations are normally taught in the library and provide an overview of critical thinking, reference materials, database selection, CLIO searching, and advanced search methods. The Reference Librarian/Instructor can create an online research guide for classes taught and will tailor the content to meet your students' needs. Contact Karen Dobrusky for more information or to schedule a session. Have a look at our wiki to contribute or get ideas on how to teach critical thinking about library and web resources. We are engaged in a project to assess the information literacy and critical thinking skills of first year students and the library instruction we give them. |
