Authenticated Wireless
Authenticated Wireless

MINS is in the process of eliminating our open wireless hotspots and replacing them with secure, authenticated networks.

Currently, these authenticated networks are set up in the following locations:

  1. Elliott Hall
  2. Sulzberger Hall
  3. Barnard Hall Lobby
  4. Environmental Science

Each of these locations has two unique wireless networks: one SSID named after the location (e.g. Barnard Main Campus or Environmental Science) and the other named Barnard College.

Anyone with a valid Barnard College or Columbia University email username and password should use the location-specific SSID. These networks require users to log in and then encrypt all wireless network traffic between the client computer and the access point. They allow access to all network resources, including chat programs and email clients.

The Barnard College network is meant for use by guests to the college. It does not require any authentication, nor does it offer any wireless encryption. Additionally, it ONLY allows for web browsing, so email clients and chat programs will not work on this network.

Computer Setup for Authenticated Wireless:

Mac OS 10.4 (Tiger)
Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard)
Windows XP
Windows Vista
