Special Majors
Barnard music majors may design a special major under the auspices of
the music department. The major may be designed by combining aspects of
any
two disciplines from across the college curriculum: economics/music,
women's studies/music, dance/music, theater/music, art history
music; there is no restriction on the subject areas that may be
included. Models for successful designs are available in the music
office, 319 Milbank. In addition to combined special majors, students
have also
completed successful special majors in ethnomusicology, electronic music,
and Afro-American and Latin American studies/jazz. A student will work
with her academic advisor to construct the components of the special
major, attach a formal senior thesis proposal, and then submit the completed
special major proposal to the Committee on Academic Standing and
Placement.
