Assistant Professor Linda Richter is Primary Author of Report
on Addiction for Girls and Young Women
Linda
Richter, a social psychologist who teaches in Barnard's Psychology
Department, is the primary author of a team research report
that examines pathways to addiction for girls and young women.
Titled "The Formative Years: Substance Abuse Among Girls
and Young Women Ages 8-22," the report was issued by
the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Colubmia

Richter, Ph.D., is a Senior Research Associate in the Policy
Research and Analysis division of The National Center on Addiction
and Substance Abuse (CASA). Her focus is adolescent substance
use and the pathways to addiction. She teaches at both Barnard
and Teachers College. In addition to her work in the substance
abuse field, Richter is a social psychologist by training
and has conducted research in the areas of human motivation,
interpersonal communication, and social dynamics.
