Barnard Radio Station WBAR to Hold Second Radiothon

New York, NY, February 21— WBAR, the student-run radio station at Barnard College, will sponsor the second annual WBARADIOTHON, February 28 through March 7. This week-long on-air pledge drive features on-air performances by campus and non-campus bands, as well as three concerts open to the public to raise money for expansion of WBAR’s broadcast range.

WBAR, the largest student organization at Barnard College, has a DJ staff of 150 and involves students from Barnard and Columbia. WBAR plays an eclectic mix that includes almost every genre of music— hip-hop, rock, electronic, world and punk—and focuses mainly on independent bands, both within Barnard and Columbia and outside of the campus communities.

WBAR’s current goal is to repair and expand the wiring in the residential buildings on campus so that the signal can be received in all the dorms, at an estimated cost of $40,000.

The WBARADIOTHON will host three public concerts during the drive, including the kick-off concert on February 28, featuring Columbia University bands Oddjobs, Clarity and Eternal, and MC Squared, as well as a performance by Dalek.

On March 4, WBAR hosts a performance featuring emo/punk groups One AM Radio, Windup Bird, Schematic of a Waking Life and Snack Truck, as well as Columbia band The Saddest Landscape; and on March 5, WBAR showcases college-rock bands Kanda, Sisterhood of Convoluted Sisters, and Boyracer.
All shows will take place in McIntosh Center, on Barnard’s campus at 119th Street and Broadway.

Donations to the WBARADIOTHON may be sent to: WBAR, 3009 Broadway, New York, NY 10027. The station accepts credit card, check, and money-order payments.
