Women at Work in New York - Past Achievements, Future Prospects

In 1975, when the NYC Commission on Women's Issues was founded, women earned 59 cents for every dollar earned by men. Today, although that gap has narrowed, women in the New York City workforce still face significant challenges. To mark Women's History Month and the 30th anniversary of the founding of the NYC Commission on Women's Issues, join Barnard College and the Museum of the City of New York for a panel on the progress of women in the workforce in New York City over the past three decades and what is being done today to improve their prospects.

The discussion will focus on the three important sectors employing New York women - health care, financial services, and the trades. Moderated by Judith Shapiro, President, Barnard College, the panel will be introduced by

Rae D. Rosen, Senior Economist and Assistant Vice President, Federal Reserve Bank of New York, and Ester Fuchs, Special Advisor for Governance and Strategic Planning to the Mayor.

Panelists will be Kathy Rodgers, President, Legal Momentum; Faith Wiggins, Director, 1199 Bill Michelson Home Care Industry Education Fund, and Deborah Buresh Jackson, an investment banker for over 22 years, formerly with Goldman Sachs & Co.

This program is co-sponsored by Barnard College and co-hosted by the NYC Commission on Women's Issues.

Reservations are required.

Tickets are $6 for museum members and seniors; $10 for non-members.
