Barnard Books Etc. Presents Novelist Cristina Garcia on March 23
Cristina Garcia, one of the most gifted and original Cuban-American voices in U.S. literature, will be the featured author at the Barnard Books Etc. series next reading and discussion, upcoming on March 23. A graduate of Barnard, Garcia is the author of three acclaimed novels, Dreaming in Cuban, The Aquero Sisters and her latest , Monkey Hunting . She will read from her work, take questions from the audience and sign copies of her books, which will be on sale.
The event will take place at 7 P.M. in the James Room on the fourth floor of Barnard Hall The event is open to the public. An RSVP is required: booksetc@barnard.edu
Born in Havana, Cristina Garcia grew up in New York City and graduated from Barnard in 1979. She shot into fame with her first novel, Dreaming in Cuban , which was nominated for the National Book Award. Monkey Hunting is the story of five generations of a Chinese Cuban family. She is also the editor of Cubanisimo: The Vintage Book of Contemporary Cuban Literature . She has been a Guggeheim Fellow and winner of a Whiting Writers' Award. Before she began her literary career, Garcia was a political journalist who was on the editorial staff of Time magazine, among other publications.
