Victoria Baranov '07 Awarded a 2006 Beinecke Scholarship
Victoria Baranov ’07 has been awarded a 2006 Beinecke Scholarship, given each year to college juniors of exceptional promise who are planning to attend graduate school in the humanities, art, or social sciences. Baranov is an economics and mathematics major and hopes to pursue a doctoral degree in economics.
In the last year, Baranov has worked as a research assistant in both the economics and chemistry departments at Barnard, and she interned for the Carnegie Corporation of New York in the summer of 2004. She is the director of Peace by P.E.A.C.E., a campus volunteer organization that teaches conflict resolution to 5th graders in Harlem, and co-founder and executive board member of the Columbia Economic Forum.
Baranov’s previous awards include the Alena Wels Hirschorn ’58 Scholarship for outstanding students in economics, the C.V. Starr Scholarship for outstanding students (2006), and The Sylvia Kopald Selekman Prize for best work in introductory economics (2004). She will be applying to graduate schools this fall 5.09.06
