Sophomore Taylor Tierney Recognized for Achievement in Varsity Softball
New York, NY--Barnard Sophomore Taylor Tierney was awarded the Carol Dodge Award at the Columbia Varsity "C" Club Awards on Wednesday, May 4, 2004. The award is presented each year to the member of the varsity softball team who, through her actions both on and off the field, provides inspiration and leadership for her team, perseveres through adversity, and demonstrates compassion for her fellow athletes.
Tierney was also just named as the Ivy League Softball Player of the Week by Ivy League Weekly. She had 8 RBI's last week in four games, against Princeton (2), Monmouth, and Fordham. She led the team in RBI's this season, with 33, and, she hit 9 of the team's total 13 homeruns.
Other Barnard students who were recognized at the "C" Club Awards include Alexie Rubin '07, who was a part of the All-Ivy fencing team; Melissa Nyugan '04, who won the Women's Tennis Award, and Nasreen Bakht '05, who won the Women's Archery Award.
The Barnard/Columbia Athletic Consortium, established in 1983, is a unique collaboration of the three undergraduate divisions of Columbia University, Barnard College, Columbia College, and the School of Engineering and Applied Science, enabling women from the three schools to play on the same varsity teams. Barnard College is the only women's college that competes at the Division I level.
