PRESIDENT SHAPIRO TO RECEIVE SEIXAS AWARD FROM COLUMBIA/BARNARD HILLEL

Columbia/Barnard Hillel will honor President Judith Shapiro at its annual dinner on Monday, May 17, recognizing her leadership contributions through its highest award, the Gershom Mendes Seixas Award.

The award, named for the first Jewish trustee of Columbia, a revolutionary patriot and the first American-born rabbi, is presented annually to distinguished community leaders in recognition of their contribution to Columbia/Barnard Hillel. Barnard alumnae are among the top leaders of the Kraft Jewish Center, including Ruth Horowitz, co-president of the Hillel Board of Trustees and board members Michelle Friedman Belfer, Dinah Merkin Mendes, Jacqueline Schneider and Judy Schwartz.

Hillel will also honor Harvey Krueger, a Columbia alumnus, vice-chair of Lehman Brothers and husband of Constance Krueger, a Barnard Trustee.

The dinner will take place at Lerner Hall on the Columbia campus. Alon Pinkas, Consul General of Israel, will be the speaker.  The benefit dinner, which draws alumnae and alumni of Barnard and Columbia, parents, faculty and friends, helps support more than 50 student programs at the Kraft Center.

Ticket information is available through Joanne Ben Avi at (212) 854-0451 or by sending email to: jb427@columbia.edu
