Two
Barnard Students Receive New York State College Health Association
2002 Student Awards
New
York, NY, May 14, 2002For the first time ever, the
New York State College Health Association (NYSCHA) has named
two students from the same school for its NYSCHA 2002 Student
Awards. In addition to the award, the students, Louise MacLeod
04 and Louise Hogan 05, will attend the American
College Health Association (ACHA) national conference in
Washington, DC, from May 28 to June 1, 2002.
"The fact that this is the first time the Association
has selected two students from the same school for the awards
shows the kind of contributions Barnard women make,"
said Polly Wheat, Director of Health Services at Barnard.
"This is a tribute both to them and the college."
NYSCHA award winners are selected based on specific activities
that contribute to the health services or health care on
his or her campus. MacLeod, a Residential Assistant, is
a laboratory assistant in Student Health Services as well
as the recipient of a Student Government Association Student
Leadership award for 2001-2002.
Hogan, who will be an RA next year, is also a Well-Woman
peer educator and has also recently received a grant from
the American Cancer Society to work toward decreasing the
use of tobacco on campus. "I was thrilled to receive
the award because I will get to attend the ACHA conference,"
she said. "I think it will only enhance my skills as
a peer educator, founder of SCAT [Students in College Against
Tobacco] and future RA."
