Barnard Alumna and Professor Mary Gordon '71
Inducted into American Academy of Arts and Letters

Mary Gordon

Mary Gordon ’71, bestselling author and Millicent C. McIntosh Professor of Writing, has been elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters. The Academy’s 2007 induction ceremony honoring Gordon, Harper Lee and seven other new members took place on May 16.

Gordon’s books include the novels Final Payments and The Company of Women, and the memoir The Shadow Man. Among the awards and other honors Gordon has received for her work are a Guggenheim fellowship and the 2006 Story Prize for her collection The Stories of Mary Gordon.
