Barnard Unveils New Exhibit in Milbank Hall

Many of the exciting physical changes planned for Barnard campus, including the construction of a new academic, research and social center to be called the Nexus, are detailed in a new exhibit on the second floor of Milbank Hall. Located in the heavily trafficked area just outside the Admissions and President’s offices, the exhibit also showcases the caliber and accomplishments of students, faculty, and alumnae, as well as the breadth of new programs, special events and campus visitors.

Designed by the firm Two Twelve Associates, the exhibit explores seven themes: A Liberal Arts College; New York City; Affiliate of Columbia University; A College for Women; The People of Barnard; the Barnard Experience; and the Barnard Master Plan.

The themes are displayed in a linear progression with multi-leveled and multi-dimensioned frames holding images and artifacts like faculty books and student projects. The Master Plan breaks out of that linear design as a visualized "exclamation point" to the display. The separate section in front of the Admissions Office features a continuously looping video campus tour, which can be heard through the attached headphones. The modular exhibit design is durable yet flexible, and allows content to be changed as frequently as Barnard itself changes.
