Up to the Challenge: Barnard Accepts Mayor Michael Bloomberg's Challenge to Reduce Greenhouse Emissions 30% by the Year 2017
"Always with an eye toward innovation and the future, Barnard has enjoyed great success in using as many of its resources as possible to increase energy efficiency and sustainability," President Judith Shapiro remarked at a June 6 press conference organized by Mayor Michael Bloomberg's office. The event, held at Pratt University, brought Mayor Bloomberg together with the presidents of nine NYC colleges and universities to highlight the need for academic institutions to play a leading role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions as part of PlaNYC 2030, Mayor Bloomberg's plan for a more sustainable New York City.
"These days it takes more than academic pursuits and lofty discourse to create and maintain truly rarified air," Shapiro said.
