Film by Alumna Carole Rifkind Airs on Public Television in New York

The Ventian Dilemma: City or Theme Park?, a documentary by alumna Carole Rifkind and her husband Richard, will air on July 9 at 4 p.m. and July 12 at 2:30 p.m. on WNET Thirteen in New York. The film explores a host of issues plaguing Venetians now that annual tourists outnumber the city's residents by more than 200 to 1. The Rifkinds, who have a second home in Venice, display an enormous affection for the city and show that, as the city makes way for more tourist-friendly resturants and souvenir shops, it is at the expense of day care centers, bakeries, medical facilities and grocery stores. A host of colorful and passionate local characters weigh in on the issues as well, lamenting the transformation of their city into something that resembles a theme park for vacationers.

The critically acclaimed film previously showed at the Film Forum in New York.
