New York, N.Y, July 26, 2002 On Dance, the
Monday-night series of conversations, lectures, and panels
sponsored by the Barnard College Department of Dance, announces
four events for the 2002- 2003 academic year.
The series, curated by Adjunct Professor of Dance Lynn Garafola,
is free and open to the public. All events take place in
the Julius S. Held Lecture Hall, Room 304 Barnard Hall.
Barnard College is located at 3009 Broadway at 117th Street.

Virginia Johnson, former principal dancer of Dance Theatre
of Harlem and editor of Pointe magazine, talks to
Lynn Garafola about her career as a pioneering African-American
ballerina.

Making Music for Dance
Time: 7:30 p.m.
Composers and musicians talk about their collaborations
with dancers and choreographers. This lecture features Robert
"Tigger" Benford, Mason Gross School of the Arts,
Rutgers University; Gilles Obermeyer, Department of Dance,
Barnard College; and David Van Tieghem, composer/percussionist/performer/sound
designer.
