Olympic Fencer Erinn Smart ’01 Goes for the Gold in Beijing

The 2008 Summer Olympics are underway and one of Barnard’s own is in Beijing, competing as a member of the U.S. Women’s Fencing Team. Five-time national champion in the women’s foil competition, Erinn Smart ’01 is back for her third Olympic appearance; she competed in the 2004 Olympics in Athens and served as an alternate in Sydney in 2000. If you missed the Women’s Individual Foil competition on August 11th, where Smart placed 26th, you’ll have another chance to see her compete on August 16th in the Women’s Team Foil event.
