College Wins High Marks for Admissions Approach in College Guide
With an admit rate for 2004 that makes Barnard the most selective women's college in the country, the College has won praise from The Princeton
Review for its admissions approach. The Review's 2005 edition of The
Best 357 Colleges noted that the admission staff "is open and
accessible, which is not always the case at highly selective colleges
with as long and impressive a tradition of excellence."
"The admissions committee's expectations are high but their attitude
reflects a true interest in who you are and what's on your mind," the
Guide stated. "Students have a much better experience throughout the
admissions process when treated with sincerity and respects -- perhaps
this is why Barnard continues to attract and enroll some of the best
students in the country."
For this year's incoming first-year students, Barnard established its
most selective admit rate at 27 percent - the lowest of any women's
college.
Additionally, the admitted students are the most selective as a group
yet, based on a median combined SAT score of 1390.
Other Princeton Review ratings of Barnard, on a scale of 100:
Selectivity: 99
Financial Aid: 95
Quality of Life: 94
Academics: 94
Barnard also ranked second overall on Princeton Review's list of schools
in "Great College Towns."
Barnard's selectivity record ranked high on the U.S. News & World Report
2005 edition of America's Best Colleges; at No. 9 among 219 liberal arts
colleges nationally, Barnard was the most selective of any women's
college
