Barnard Responds to Hurricane Katrina

To the Barnard Community:

The loss of life and devastation in the Gulf states reminds us as a community that we must share our own good fortune where we can to support those in need during this terrible crisis. It is heartbreaking to see the fate of the survivors in New Orleans and other places; we grieve with them and we want to do all that we can to help. Toward that end, the higher education community is mobilizing and Barnard is currently working to accommodate students whose own institutions have been forced to close. Our own student housing is filled for the fall semester but we hope and expect to be able to accommodate some visiting students impacted by the hurricane who want to enroll at the College and are able to live off-campus. I know that all of us will welcome these students and help to make them feel a part of our community during this time.   In addition, I encourage each of you to contribute to charitable organizations and funds that are helping the hurricane survivors rebuild their shattered lives.
