9/11 Memorial Tree
Lehman Lawn

updated 09.10.07

On September 11, 2002, the eastern redbud tree pictured here was planted at the southeast corner of Lehman Lawn to mark the first anniversary of the tragic events of 9/11/2001. The tree continues to grow and grace our campus. While it is a reminder of our collective loss, it is also a strong and hopeful sign of renewal.

Please feel free to visit the tree to reflect on the meaning of that day of six years ago. The plaque beneath the tree reads: “The Barnard community planted this eastern redbud tree one year after the tragic events of September 11, 2001 in remembrance of those who lost their lives and as a symbol of hope.”
