WAYS TO HELP
Dear
Member of the Barnard Community,
Many
of you have inquired about how you can help
in the wake of the events of Tuesday, September
11.
College-wide
donation. In addition to the commendable
fund-raising efforts already under way at Barnard
and elsewhere within the University, Barnard
as a College will make a donation to two highly
credible organizations:
The September 11th Fund, jointly administered
by the United Way and the Community Fund of
New York City; and The
New York Times 9/11 Neediest Fund. Members
of the community who would like to add to the
College's donation may contribute directly or
bring checks payable to either "The September
11th Fund" or "The New York Times 9/11
Neediest Fund," or cash, to the Bursar's Office,
15 Milbank. The September 11th Fund covers both
New York City and Washington, D.C., though money
can be designated for either; The New York
Times 9/11 Neediest Fund focuses on the
victims of the World Trade Center attack. Any
funds collected will be included in the College's
gift.
Blood
drive. We have been advised that, right
now, local hospitals and blood banks are not
seeking additional donors. However, The New
York Blood Center recommends that you sign up
now for Barnard's two-day blood drive to take
place on Wednesday and Thursday, October 10th
and 11th, and I encourage you to participate.
The Office of Disability Services Web site has
information on how to pledge online: http://www.barnard.edu/ods/blooddrive.html
Those with questions can also call ODS at x4-4634.
Volunteering.
Members of the campus community who wish to
volunteer their time with the Red Cross may
use the following form, Spontaneous
Volunteer Application DR#787, to describe
their areas of expertise and availability. You
may download and print out the form, fill it
out, and bring it to College Activities, 209
McIntosh, where it will be collected by the
Office of Disability Services and forwarded
to the Red Cross on a daily basis. Extra forms
are located in the College Activities Office,
Human Resources in 6 Milbank, and in ODS at
105 Hewitt. (Viewing and printing the forms
requires Adobe Acrobat Reader. Click
here to download the free software.)
Your
response to the needs of your fellow New Yorkers
has been extraordinary.
