The Many Languages of Poetry:
Bilingual Reading Set for Sept. 29 th at Barnard College

In a unique celebration of language, French Poet Franck Andre Jamme will read his poetry in French and in English Thursday, September 29 th from 4:00-6:00 p.m. in the Brooks Living Room at Barnard College. Barnard French professor, Serge Gavronsky, will also read some of the English translations of Jamme's work from poet-translators, John Ashbery, Charles Borkhuis, Mary Ann Caws, and Michael Tweed.

Jamme has written thirteen volumes of poetry and his work has appeared in English in "The New French Poetry" (Bloodax Books, 1996) as well as in "The Yale Book of French Poetry" in 2004.

"A writer of rare quality," wrote Henri Michaux about Jamme, whose poetry has also been illustrated by artists such as Zao Wouk-Ki, Jan Voss and Jaume Plensa.

Jamme has also been asked by Rene Char to oversee the publication of his "Complete Works" for the Pleiade Editions. In 2005, Jamme was awarded the "Grand Prix de Poesie de la Societe des Gens de Lettres."

The poetry reading is free and open to the public.
