Kofi Anyidoho will read and discuss his poetry, which deals primarily with public, political, historical, and social themes rooted in the traditions and culture of African people.
The Ghanaian poet and educator Kofi Anyidoho is Chair of the Literature Department of the University of Ghana, Legon-Accra. A graduate of the University of Ghana, he earned an M.A. from Indiana University and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas. His most recent book of poetry, PraiseSong for the Land (2002), draws on Ewe verbal art as a critical source of the cultural and philosophical expression of an African community. He is currently a visiting professor at Barnard College guest teaching The Literature of the Middle Passage course.
