Provost Boylan Part of American Delegation at China Conference

New York, NY, October 17-- Barnard Provost Elizabeth S. Boylan joined a high-level delegation of American and Chinese scholars and policymakers recently for a major conference on U.S.-China educational cooperation, held in Beijing.

Boylan was among scholars from several other selective American universities, including Harvard, the University of California at Berkeley, and George Washington, which participated in the U.S.-China Education Cooperation Conference Sept. 25-27, the first of its kind since China's accession to the World Trade Organization 10 months earlier.

The conference, which allowed the Americans to share their management and fund-raising experiences with their counterparts in China, was organized by the Beijing United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization Association (UNESCO) and the International Education Foundation. Boylan's topic was "Toward Excellence: Managing Resources in Higher Education." Read the speech by clicking HERE.

The forum, in addition to providing an opportunity for scholars and others from China and the United States to exchange views on educational cooperation, explored distance learning as a practical solution for China, which is eager to expand educational opportunities for its citizens.

Boylan also met with officials from Rin Men University for discussions about possible joint programs with Barnard.
