Women Poets at Barnard, Fall 2000 Reading Series

New York, N.Y. - The Women Poets at Barnard Fall 2000 Reading Series continues on Thursday November 2 at 8 P.M. with a reading by Mei-mei Berssenbrugge and Martha Rhodes.

Jackson Mac Low wrote about Berssenbrugge: “She is neither ‘objectivist’ nor ‘subjectivist’ but a poet of the whole consciousness. A virtuoso of the long line, hers - unlike those of most other poets - are startlingly non-rhapsodic, although they are more truly emotional than those of other rhapsodists. I’ve known and loved Mei-mei Berssenbrugge’s poetry for years. It gets better all the time.”

Jean Valentine praised Rhodes’ work Perfect Disappearance as “the record - so far - of an odd, courageous, and very gifted consciousness whose witness I admire.”

The poets will read in Sulzberger Parlor, in Barnard Hall at Barnard College, Broadway at 117th Street. Admission is free, and a reception will follow the program.
