Professor of Political Science, Alex Cooley
is quoted in a New York Daily News article
by Richard Sisk, titled "Trying to Make Peace
Among Warring Afghans - U.S. soldiers mediate
ancient tribal clashes."
Cooley comments on the Afghan tribes and their
disputes, in addition to comments by Defense
Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and Gen. Peter Pace,
vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Cooley says: "They're quite competitive ...
There is a hostility between the Uzbeks and
the Tajiks ... There will be some real infighting
over aid distribution." He adds: "Then it's
really going to get ugly."
