New Web Service Connects Students Throughout University
New York, N.Y., September 22, 2000 -- The College Activities Office and Mascot Network have partnered to bring students a new online service that facilitates communication among students at Barnard College, Columbia College, and the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science.
The site is designed solely for the use of students within the Columbia University community. Students can access Mascot at http://columbia.mascot.com where they will be asked to login using their Barnard College ID and password.
Mascot's features include:
- Online Facebook - Complete with photos, this facebook makes it easy to find friends and classmates by name, class year, major, or group affiliation.
- Personalized Events Calendar- Allows students to stay informed on what's happening within the Columbia University community and beyond.
- Online Student Groups - Maintain contact and stay up-to-date with ongoing activites via the group communication tools.
- Fun - For a quick study break, check out the Fun page. It includes music, videos, movie listings, and latest games
There are additional pages with information about shopping and money-saving deals, which students can access with their CUID and password.
"Mascot is not designed to replace existing web sites at Barnard, or the other colleges in the provision of services or official news, information and announcements," Joe Bertolino, Assistant Dean of Residential Life and College Activities, said. "Instead, it is designed to allow students on both sides of Broadway to better share information about student activities. In this way, students can gain greater awareness of the wide range of clubs and organizations available to them."
The site is designed to protect students' right to privacy. Students are in control the information they want to share with other members of your community. None of the information students provide will ever be distributed to any third party organization without their permission.
