NAMING OPPORTUNITIES
What's in a name?
A great deal, actually (with all due respect to Mr. Shakespeare).
The name "Barnard" stands for excellence in higher education. “Barnard” stands for the unwavering advancement of women. "Barnard" stands for an extraordinary campus in the heart of an extraordinary city.
Now — philanthropically, tangibly and very visibly — you can make your name stand for everything you love and admire about Barnard.
In the days ahead, consider making a gift that will place your name at the center of Barnard's campus, and will place you at the center of Barnard’s proud, ongoing history.
Name this Building
It’s time for this magnificent building on Broadway to have a magnificent name. This is the opportunity for you to become one of most important benefactors in Barnard’s history. Your name will be synonymous with a structure that serves as the exhilarating hub of campus life at a great educational institution. This building’s design has already won a major architectural award.
When students attend classes, SGA considers residential policies, the campus community eats lunch, theatergoers enjoy a riveting performance, hundreds of educators assemble at an academic conference, or roommates debate philosophy over oversized cups of cappuccino — they will gather in the building named for you.
Within this beautiful structure, Barnard will educate and nurture women who will be unstoppable forces for enlightenment and progress locally, nationally, and around the globe. Make this building the concrete expression of your philanthropic vision. Give it your utmost financial support, and give it your name.

Special Events Space
This vast room will be one of the largest assembly spaces on campus, and will comfortably hold up to 500 people. It is designed to accommodate a wide range of programs, including public lectures, academic symposia, film screenings, dance performances, and gala dinners.
The elliptical space will be housed in a rich, warm wood paneling — cherry for the walls, oak for the floor. The sprung floor will be durable and impact sensitive, specially designed for use by dancers and other performing artists. Like the wood of a crafted musical instrument, the acoustically perforated wood panels will calibrate the sound within the space. The stage will be equipped with a concealed fabric curtain that can be drawn for special events. The space will also be fully equipped with digital audio-visual technology.
This space will be a destination not only for the Barnard community, but also for the residents of New York City, and for everyone drawn to the conferences, artistic productions and other events hosted there.
$5,000,000
The Greenroof
A beautiful green roof of natural vegetation will top the new building. The green roof’s functions and purposes will include energy conservation, environmental research, and light outdoor recreation.
The roof will provide natural insulation for the building, reducing energy consumption during the sumer. Faculty and students in the environmental sciences will use the roof for climate studies and other pertinent research. During the late spring and early fall, the large rooftop patio will be available for relaxation and light entertainment. The rooftop patio will also be popular with seminar classes deciding to forego the classroom for a discussion in the sunshine and fresh air.
The building’s skylight and atrium will bring natural light down from the roof to the rest of the building.
