A Message From The Director of Career Development

Dear Barnard Student,

Career Development is committed to teaching students the skills needed to make career decisions over a lifetime and to facilitating internships, employment, and postgraduate opportunities. By utilizing our programs and services, students will learn to incorporate a multifaceted approach to their career development.

Career Development provides career counseling and programming to assist students and alumnae in translating their liberal arts education into the language of the workplace. The office assists students with searches for full-time jobs, internships, student employment, and graduate school counseling in collaboration with the Office of the Dean of Studies. Extensive resources include a career library, and a variety of self-assessment counseling tools that are available for career research. Career Development facilitates recruitment through a variety of organizations, and annual career fairs to connect students with employers.

Ultimately, you are responsible for your own career direction decision-making.  Career Development is excited to partner with you early in you college career to develop a four-year plan for success.

Career Development will help students to:

  • Define their career goals(s)
  • Understand their unique values, interests, skills, and abilities
  • Develop the skills to secure a job or internship
  • Identify and define their  transferable skills and how to market them
  • Understand that the educational experience takes place inside and outside class

Have a great semester, and visit the BCD Office!

Best,

Robert Earl
