Community Service & Internships

Community Service

One of the best ways to get engaged in your community is through volunteering your time for a cause that you feel particularly passionate about.  Check out this Community Service Tip Sheet to find out about some of the great resources to get you started and sign up for the NYCCEP newsletter for weekly updates on service opportunities.  Also, come to the Community Service Fair to learn about volunteer opportunities with great local community organizations!  Please note that Barnard College is a Certifying Organization for the President's Volunteer Service Award.

Please take a look at Barnard College's Service Portfolio, prepared for Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s NYC Service Office’s College Challenge initiative in Spring 2010, to learn more about the various service-related initiatves at Barnard.

Internships

Many Barnard students will engage in internships each year. One of the best ways to combine your desire to get involved with your city with your need to get some real-life professional experience can be met through interning at one of the thousands of city, not-for-profit, or other agencies. Again, Barnard Career Development has information to help you begin this process! Please visit Career Development’s website and NACElink for more information.
