COMMUNITY SERVICE
One of the best ways to get engaged in your community is through volunteering your time for a cause that you feel particularly passionate about. Check out Career Development's page on community service to find out about some of the great opportunities to get you started and to get signed up for the Community Service Listserv for regular updates of service opportunities. Look for information at the start of each semester for Community Service Fairs!

INTERNSHIPS
Many Barnard students will engage in internships each year. One of the best ways to combine your desire to get involved with your city with your need to get some real-life professional experience can be met through interning at one of the thousands of city, not-for-profit, or other agencies. Again, the Office of Career Development has information to help you begin this process!

ACADEMIC COURSES
Some courses at Barnard College will have a significant off-campus component. Whether they require you to complete an internship (Theorizing Civic Engagement), to register several hours of volunteer work, to attend cultural events, or to meet with other citizens of New York, these courses will allow you to combine practical experience with guided reflection and can be some of the most rewarding experiences you'll have while engaging! Always feel free to contact individual faculty members with questions about any community-based learning within their course, but here are a few tips to identifying these courses from their descriptions:
