INFORMATION FOR COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS

The work of the New York City Civic Engagement Program is dependant upon the involvement and resources of our friends in city agencies, government, and organizations. The reciprocal relationship between Barnard College and New York City is growing stronger by the week, and we are always pleased to make new contacts. Feel free to contact NYCCEP to set up a meeting to discuss your organization's mission and goals and how we might collaborate in the future!

There are a few specific ways that your organization can get involved in the Barnard community:

INTERNSHIPS
Organizations can benefit from the skills and perspectives that Barnard women bring to the workplace. Over 1500 Barnard students intern at various locations throughout the world, engaging in multifaceted ways to learn and specific fields of interest. The Office of Career Development's Internship Program is a great resource for you!

COMMUNITY SERVICE & VOLUNTEER RECRUITMENT
We host two annual Community Service Fairs for members of the Barnard community to learn about service agencies and develop relationships with various causes and issues. In addition, we plan specific service opportunities that fit with other programs offered through NYCCEP.

ERECRUITING
eRecruiting is Barnard's database for matching students with prospective volunteer sites and internship sites. To access this site, log on through the Career Development website and create and maintain a profile with volunteer, intern, or employment opportunities.

CURRICULAR CONNECTIONS
Organizations and students alike can benefit from the relationships formed between faculty and their community. Whether students in an architecture design studio use a city park as a seminar project, or urban studies majors collaborate with supportive housing organizations in designing new programs, or English majors work with housing organizations to understand the concept of "home" and apply this to literature, organizations profit from the student learning process.
