    How do I start creating a resume?

    The best way to start is by making a list of your education, activities, and work experience. Do this first and worry about formatting later.

    How do I format my resume?
    It's best not to use a resume template you'd find in Microsoft Word or other programs. We have various examples of resume formats available in Career Development. You can view some of these here.

    What do I say in my cover letter?
    You should think about why your interested in the position for which you're applying. Your interest in the company and position should definitely come across in your letter. For a more detailed explanation of what goes into a cover letter, click here.


    How many pages should my resume be?
    Your resume should only be one side of one sheet of paper. The only exception to this is a curriculum vitae.


    What kind of paper should I use to send my resume?
    You should use good quality printer paper, or resume paper. Resume paper is available in Career Development for ten cents a sheet. You may also use our copier to put your resume on resume paper.

    Can someone review my resume and cover letter?
    Yes! That's why we have drop-in hours in Career Development every day from 12-4. A counselor will be available to review your resume and cover letter, offer tips and suggestions, and give advice on your job search.


    Can I use the same cover letter and resume for more than one position?
    Yes. It's good to have one general cover letter and resume that you can send to different places. You can always edit your general letter and resume to cater more directly to a particular job. Be sure to always change the name and company on your cover letter to match the position!
