Using the Career Development Website

First Time? Update your profile!
To log in, go to the Office of Career Development's website (www.barnard.edu/ocd) and click on the "eRecruiting Log-In" * link under Frequently Requested Links (right side of page). The first time you log in you will be prompted to complete your profile information. All information marked with a red dot is required and must be filled in before you will be allowed to search for jobs and/or internships. Be sure to select all of your interests. Doing so enables us to send you targeted emails about opportunities and programs matching your interests. It's also a good idea to change your password at this time.

*eRecruiting is a network of opportunities that powers our database. This means that you get a wider array of jobs and internships. eRecruiting also provides a place for you to manage your internship and job searches, store resumes and other documents, and more. Using eRecruiting does not mean you are participating in a recruitment program.

Your Home Page
When you complete your profile, you'll be brought to your home page. The top line is your navigation bar - it will be on every page on the eRecruiting network. From that navigation bar you can edit your profile to update interests and academic information, search for internships or jobs, see documents you've uploaded (such as resumes or cover letters), check on events you've signed up to attend, locate alumnae mentors, and research careers.

On the left you'll see a quick calendar, listing upcoming events. In the middle is a box to do a quick search of jobs or internships. You can see recently posted opportunities or access your saved searches or favorite jobs. Below that, you can select buttons to view your resumes and your applications. On the right side are links to your Experience Center, an eRecruiting career resource that can be customized based on your interests and preferences.

Searching for Jobs/Internships
Click on "Jobs & Internships" on your navigation bar (at the top) and then select "job/internship search." You can perform a Basic Search from the center of the page or select one of the search options on the left, customized for Barnard students. If you select "Detailed Search" on the left you'll be able to select even more criteria such as type of position (i.e. work-study, on-campus, paid). Remember: the fewer criteria you select the more likely you are to be able to view more opportunities.

Navigating a Job/Internship Posting
The postings contain a lot of useful information. A box at the top indicates the date posted, job status, compensation, and related information. The interview schedule (if any) and description and details follow. Be sure to read the entire posting, all the way to the bottom, to find out how to apply for the opportunity. If the employer/sponsor is accepting online applications, you will be able to upload your resume and cover letter and apply with a click! If not, application instructions will be provided.

More Ways to Search for Jobs & Internships
You can perform a quick search through the middle section of your home page. Log in, select Job or Internship under "Search For" and check the box to show only jobs from my Career Center. Select Search and all jobs or internships posted by Career Development will appear. (Note: if you do not choose this box, you will see all jobs posted to the Experience network of colleges and universities.) You can also select "More Search Options" from the middle of your home page. Then choose from the list of More Searches or 1-Click Searches on the left, including searches for BEST opportunities, on-campus and off-campus jobs, and a search screen for internships.

Save Your Searches
If you create your own customized searches, you can save your selections and view the information again. On the Search Results page, choose "Save Your Search" under More Search Options. You can also choose to receive email notifications of job matches. Saved searches can be found on the Search for Jobs and Internships page, in the left column.

Organize Favorite Jobs/Internships into Folders
Create folders and store jobs/internships for future reference! View your searched list of opportunities, and check the boxes on the left to select those you'd like to save. Scroll down the page and select save jobs as favorites. You can "Create a New Folder" or add to to an existing folder. Keep folders on jobs you have applied to or internships you want to apply to next semester - it's up to you!

Uploading your Resume is Easier than Ever
Select "Documents" in the top navigation bar and click on "upload a document." Select the document type (resume, cover letter, writing sample, or other). You will be prompted to browse your computer for the document. Once you have found it, click "Upload." Your documents will then be available for applying to jobs/internships. You can rename your documents to easily remember which organization they were created for. To revise documents, you must delete the current one and upload the new version. When you click on "Apply" for an opportunity, you will be prompted to select a resume to attach.

Check out the Calendar of Events
Now you can find out what's happening in OCD-right from your home page! On the left middle section of your home page, you'll see a quick link to Upcoming Calendar Events. Click on an event to find out more and sign up. You can also select "Calendar" on the left side of the top navigation bar. Click on "your upcoming events" to see what you've signed up to attend, interviews scheduled, and to verify times and locations.

Searching for Alumnae Mentors is Easy
Select "Mentors" on the top navigation bar and click on "mentor home." Enter search criteria, such as employer, industry, location, and major. To obtain mentor contact information, you must save the mentor to a folder; 50 may be saved per month. Look at the fact sheet on Informational Interviewing to make the most of your contacts!

LAST TIP!! Always log out!!!
This is very important when you are leaving a public computer. Simply click on "sign out" to the right of the Barnard Career Development logo.
