Test Accommodations and
Documentation of a Disability:
Information for Students and Faculty
ODS provides disability-related classroom and test
accommodations for students who have documented disabilities that meet our
published guidelines for certification. Under both Section 504 and the ADA,
it is the responsibility of the student with a disability to provide
appropriate and complete documentation in a timely manner. For students who
have not been previously formally diagnosed with a particular disability
(especially LD or ADD), ODS recommends that the testing be done during
January break or the summer—as the process can often be lengthy and may be
emotionally demanding. Students should be aware that requests for test
accommodations in advance of full and complete test results cannot be
honored by ODS, even if there are trends or patterns of deficits seen during
preliminary testing. Students should certainly keep their instructors and
advisers informed that they are in the process of having testing
completed—as well as when the completed report is
expected.
