III. 7. I've just been accepted to Barnard, and I have a learning disability.  What's the procedure for receiving accommodations for my disability?

1. The first step is to forward a copy of your psychoeducational evaluation to our office.  Guidelines for documentation can be found on the Manual and Forms page on our website.

2. Within the first two weeks of your first semester, make an appointment to register with the Learning Disabilities Coordinator.  The meeting will include registration, discussion of your situation, review of recommendations, and accommodations that you will need for your classes.  Bring copies of your program and schedule for review.

3. A self-identification policy is used to inform professors of student needs.  This process will be reviewed with the LD Coordinator.  A Test Accommodation Form (TAF) is filled out by the student for each class.  On this form, ODS certifies the necessary accommodations, and the instructor describes procedures for exam administration.  Accommodations may include extended time on tests (time-and-a-half), quiet room, use of computer, etc.  The TAF must be returned to ODS with signatures of the student, instructor, and LD Coordinator.

4. Once registered, the student is encouraged to communicate with ODS.  Check-ins at the beginning of each semester allow for continuation of accommodations, as needed.
