We are delighted that you will be attending Barnard this fall -- and are
here to assist you with any disability-related needs that you may have
as you plan for your arrival this August. If you have not already done
so, please review and complete as necessary the forms included in the 2008
online matriculation packet:
If you have disability-related needs re: housing, please remember that
the deadline for all requests is Friday, June 13 -- which included a written
student statement of request, a clinician certification statement, and a
brief appointment (telephone or in-person) with Disability Services Director
Susan Quinby to discuss individual needs. With representatives from
the offices of Housing and Residential Life, the Furman Counseling Center,
Student Heath Services, as well as Disability Services -- the
Disability-Related Housing Committee will meet to review all requests on
Thursday, June 19 with notification to students by Thursday, July 3.
As you are planning your FA'08 program with
either
First-Year Dean Lisa
Hollibaugh or with one of the advisers in
the Dean of Studies Office
(transfers and visiting students), we have a new guide that may be helpful as you consider your
disability-related needs and are pro-active in thinking about options.
Published in FA'07,
A Guide to Disability and Program Planning will offer many tips and
ideas.
ODS is open all summer -- so please feel free to call or make an
appointment to stop by if you're in the city during the summer. In
addition to the resources of our current staff, all self-identified students
with disabilities will be provided with an E-mentor, a current student with
a similar disability who is available via email for an questions and
concerns.
We look forward to meeting you and working together to make your
experience at Barnard both accessible and productive.
