The purpose of this brochure is to introduce you to the disability-related services and support offered at Barnard College (BC), Columbia University (CU) and Teachers College (TC). Each program offers an array of accommodations and services consistent with the mandate and spirit of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
Students with disabilities should register with the office where they are matriculated – and services will then follow them throughout the university. Faculty and students please note that policies and procedures may vary from school to school. The CU ODS sends letters of accommodation to faculty -- while BC students are required to self-identify their needs directly to instructors; test accommodations and notetaker services are two other areas where procedures may vary.
Each office features diverse resources designed to meet the unique needs of its respective students with disabilities.
The three programs are a part of the BC/TC/CU Disabilities Coalition, which meets on a regular basis to share resources and discuss university-wide disability issues.
All three programs share a common mission of ensuring access and equity for our students – and we look forward to working together to meet this goal.
