Help Stop Meningitis!
Meningitis is a rare, but potentially fatal, infectious disease that affects the brain and spinal cord. College students, especially those who live in residence halls with many other students, are at higher risk for meningitis than the general population. The best protection against meningitis is vaccination.
The latest recommendation from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is:
If you have never had the vaccine, get it now!
If you have already had one dose but it was before your 16th birthday, get it again (you need a booster!)
The vaccine is available at Barnard’s Primary Care Health Service. Call us at 212 854-2091 to make an appointment with our nursing staff. The cost of the vaccine may be waived under special circumstances – this can be discussed with the nurse during your appointment. If you have a family insurance plan that covers vaccinations, please bring that information with you.
If you choose to get the vaccine from your health care provider at home, please let us know so that we can make a note in your health record here.
