Stomach Virus

Stomach virus (also known as gasteroenteritis or norovirus) is on the rise at Barnard. Protect yourself and help us keep Barnard well by:

Washing your hands, often
Not sharing food or drinks
Carefully washing fruits and vegetables before eating
Limiting contact with people who are ill

There is no vaccine to prevent stomach virus and no specific medication to take if you become infected. If you are sick, practice self care: get plenty of rest and increase your intake of fluids (water, tea, sports drinks, broth) and salty foods (saltine crackers, pretzels) to reduce the risk of dehydration.

Symptoms of stomach virus typically include vomiting and diarrhea. People tend to feel better in a day or two. It is important to note that stomach virus is VERY contagious, and can be spread easily. Practice preventative measures, and stay home if you are ill.
