Assistant Professor
The Religion Department at Barnard College seeks applications for an Assistant
Professor in the field of Islam. The area of specialization (e.g., historical period,
geographical region, theoretical/methodological approach) is open, but the
successful candidate will be conversant in broad questions that currently animate
the academic study of religion, including theoretical and comparative concerns,
and interested in teaching in such a framework. Documented competency in the
relevant languages for research in the field is essential. We welcome applications
from candidates who can contribute substantively to the College’s Africana
Studies program.
All members of the Barnard Religion department participate in one or more of the
College’s interdisciplinary undergraduate programs, as well as the Graduate School of
Arts and Sciences at Columbia University. Complete applications
