Assessment

The Barnard College mission states:

Barnard College aims to provide the highest quality liberal arts education to promising and high-achieving young women, offering the unparalleled advantages of an outstanding residential college in partnership with a major research university.

To meet this commitment, the faculty have a long history of reflecting upon student learning to improve their programs of study. Recently, the College adopted new guidelines for academic assessment to ensure greater uniformity, regularity, and thoroughness in program assessment. Consistent with the Middle States Commission expectations, these new guidelines include the expectations for (1) academic assessment plans, (2) the regular review of programs and departments, and (3) the inclusion of student learning outcomes on all courses syllabi.
