Student learning outcomes are measurable goals that describe the skills, knowledge, and competencies that a student should be able to demonstrate after completing a course and/or program. They specially focus on what a student learns versus what an instructor teaches.
We assess student learning outcomes in order to know if we are doing what we think we are doing. The results help instructors refine their teaching.
All instructors are required to include student learning outcomes on their syllabi. Student learning outcomes are student-centered measurable expectations of specific skills, knowledge, or attitudes of students who successfully complete the course.
